Named after our favourite Canadian kids' TV show in the 90's: Fred Penner's Place, this remote wilderness retreat is located in Haliburton, Ontario, nestled in the heart of the Ontario Highlands. The cabin overlooks a small paddling lake that offers expansive east and west facing views (without a cottage in site!). Watch the sunrise or sunset from your private dock, paddle, fish, or access snowmobiling trails right out your front door.

As part of our partnership with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve, our guests have access to 100,000 acres of wilderness for each day of their stay. Enjoy over 400km of hiking & mountain biking trails right from your cabin starting in April through to November, or purchase a snowmobile pass once the snow falls to access these unique, professionally groomed trails throughout the winter months.

Hike-In: 300 Meters (Summer AWD & 4WD Drive-In beginning mid-May) | Remoteness: Medium

OFF-GRID BASICS

This eco-cabin is completely OFF-GRID. (Don’t let this scare you). Our cabin is modernized and solar powered with electricity and heat. Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.

LEAVE NO TRACE

All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure.

THINGS TO DO

  • Relax, Canoe, Fish, Read, Stargaze
(Our cabin is located in a wild part of the lake. Visit Halliburton Forest’s public beach for swimming.)
  • Hike, Bike or Snowmobile in Haliburton Forest Wild Life Reserve
  • Take a Canopy Tour or Husky Hike at Haliburton Forest Base Camp (20 minute drive)
  • Visit the Wolf Centre in Haliburton Forest and catch a glimpse of their wolf pack: permanent residents of Haliburton Forest since 1993
  • Grab a bite at The Cookhouse Restaurant located at the Base Camp of Haliburton Forest
  • Visit the beautiful waterfront town of Haliburton for shopping, dining and events (45 minute drive)

BE AWARE

  • This cabin is in an isolated back-country environment. Guests are responsible for their own safety and are expected to have basic wilderness skills along with a general sense of comfort being alone in nature.
  • From early-December* to mid-March most Haliburton Forest trails are open to snowmobiles only. There are a few snowshoe trails available directly at the parking lot at Base Camp.
  • Haliburton Forest’s unique location at the top of the Algonquin Dome makes it the ultimate destination for winter snowmobiling and ATVing! Rent a snowmobile through Haliburton Forest to make the most out of your adventure: https://www.haliburtonforest.com/book-online/book-snowmobile-rental/

*Once snowmobile trails are groomed and operational. For the latest trail conditions check out  https://www.haliburtonforest.com/trail-conditions/

DRIVE IN / HIKE IN ACCESS

  • Drive-in Access – AWD & 4WD only (Mid-May-Mid November)
  • Hike-in Access (Mid-November-Mid-May*) – 300m hike from the parking area

*Our laneways are not plowed in the winter months. This means that all our cabins become “hike-in access only” when the snow gets too deep to drive through. Guests visiting us in November should ensure that they have a suitable car equipped with snow tires. Please be aware that early heavy snowfall in November may mean that you’ll need to hike into your cabin. We’ll provide you with snowshoes and a sled to haul your gear.  Consider it an adventure!
